The project

The East Anglia THREE need reliable high-voltage power links.

The project comprises of an offshore windfarm of 305kmapproximately 69 km from the Suffolk coast and an onshore cable route to transport energy to a convertor station in Bramford. 
The project is seen as a centerpiece of UK´s ambition of having 50 GW offshore wind in operation by 2030. The offshore windfarm could power the equvilent of 1.3 millon homes.
As a complete supplier of the cable systems, we are responsible for cable designs, accessory designs, engineering, manufacturing, laying and installation of the cables. The onshore cable will be installed in a pre layed ducted system, including HDDs.

The solution

NKT manufacture all cable systems needed and install them using our cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria.

The high-voltage cables will be produced in our state-of-the-art factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, which operates on 100 % renewable electricity and thereby lowering the carbon footprint of the production. The manufacturing will result in a 320 kV HVDC export cable system of 2 x 147 km offshore cable and 2 x 37 km of onshore cables.
For the cable-laying we will use our upgraded vessel, NKT Victoria, which is one of the industry’s most advanced purpose-built vessels.
The fact that we were chosen for East Anlgia THREE underlines our proven ability and know-how to handle very large complete projects. When fully commissioned, the large wind farm will have an installed capacity of 1.4 GW.
